This Enviro EF3 pellet insert would be a great way to change an open fireplace to a very effective heating source. It will hold about 30 pounds of pellet fuel and the BTU rating is up to 40K. The self-igniter works so it’s easy to turn on and off. Unit price is $800, but installation is extra.
We are lucky enough to have this Regency U-41 Propane insert. This is a terrific insert that comes with a blower, and it sticks out onto the hearth to provide even more radiant heat. It’s a 38,000 BTU insert that can have a thermostat on it. The insert is $900 with installation not included.
We are fortunate to have a used Regency E-21 small gas insert available. This is a nice little insert designed for heating up to about 800 square feet, with a maximum BTU input of 23,500 using Natural Gas. It could use Propane but a kit would have to be purchased to convert it. A blower is built in it, and it has an option of a thermostat. Its price is $800 for the insert; installation materials and labor are not included. It’s in good shape and would help a family, even if the power goes out.
